TED Talks are created under the slogan, “ideas worth spreading”. They are inspirational, motivational, and educational talks from the world’s leading minds from lots of different fields of study.
Watching TED Talks is a great way to learn new things and challenge the ideas that you already do know.
However, this doesn’t mean that they have to be 100% serious or boring.
There are a lot of TED Talks out there that are as funny as they are insightful. Sometimes having a laugh in this kind of context helps you pay attention and it helps the new information sink in easier.
Humour can bridge the gap if lecture-style talks are something you find difficult and so in this way humour actually works to make this information more accessible.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, here are my very top 2 funny TED Talks to watch right now.
“Inside the mind of a master procrastinator” by Tim Urban
Tim Urban’s talk on procrastination is a funny and well-presented talk about the inner workings of what is happening in our brains when we procrastinate.
He includes hilarious cartoon monsters and creatures to demonstrate his points and to make all of the information more accessible and light-hearted.
He is a natural-born presenter and while the information he presents is well-researched and anthropologically accurate, it is easy to listen to and fun to watch.
If you are someone who regularly does all your work right before the deadline, panics before upcoming tasks, or struggles to manage daily tasks, this talk has a lot of helpful and proactive information ready to help you out.
He also discusses complex procrastination and discusses its effects and impacts beyond short-frame tasks.
This is a great talk to check out on many different levels and it comes highly recommended.
“The art of misdirection” by Apollo Robbins
“The art of misdirection” from Apollo Robbins
Apollo Robbins’ short and quirky TED Talk is a visual demonstration of human attention and perception and how those things can be tricked and manipulated. Robbins is an experienced pickpocket and he shows off his skills in a friendly and upbeat way with members of the TED audience.
It is really interesting to watch from home and realise how even your attention is being carefully manipulated. Robbins is a true mastermind of tricks and you will find yourself confused and challenged from the get-go.
His talk is funny and dynamic but it also has some deep and insightful themes into the workings of the human mind.
This one is a quirky TED Talk that won’t take up too much of your time and will have you laughing and learning instantly.
I would really recommend you give this one a go.
