Among the piles of shoes was a flash of metallic gray—a shape that didn’t belong. Cara moved quickly, weaving between the scavengers, who apparently paid it no mind. As she drew closer, she realized it was a suitcase—no, not a suitcase—a briefcase. A sleek, silver briefcase standing on top of the sand, its surface dull amongst the brightly colored shoes. No one else seemed to have noticed it.
