The police arrived within minutes. Sheriff Paul Lansing, a grizzled officer with salt-and-pepper hair, stepped out of his cruiser, already radioing for backup. “No one boards until we secure the area,” he barked. The ship loomed over them like a forgotten relic from another time. Officers lined the dock, hands resting on their holsters as if expecting something—or someone—to emerge.
