We all know that our global environment is having a bit of a tough time right now. We all know that our climate is changing at quite a rapid speed because of this tough time and we all (hopefully) know that we all need to do our part to help our world get out of the mess that we have created.
This can sometimes seem like a big and daunting prospect. How can I do anything to help save the planet? I am only one tiny part of that planet.
There are, thankfully, small and efficient things that each of us can do as part of our everyday lives in order to make as much of a difference to our environment as possible. It doesn’t always have to be huge changes that cause upset and transformation in our own lives, not always. Small things are important too and if all of us consistently made small changes, we would be on a great path together towards success.
So, with that being said, here are 3 small ways that we suggest you can positively impact the environment this year. Let us know what you think of them in the comments below, we love to hear your feedback!
1. Leave the car at home
In our day and age, many of us across the world have access to our own cars and we use these cars to go about our daily business, In fact, statistics estimate that in the UK alone there are over 39 million licensed vehicles, and that number continues to grow each year.
A lot of us have gotten very reliant on having our own car and we go everywhere we can in our own car. But this isn’t great for the environment, at all. It isn’t good for CO2 emissions, air pollution, the ethics around oil production, and more.
A really easy thing we can do to give the environment a helping hand this year is to leave our cars behind a lot more. We can use more public transport, we can bike, we can walk, we can carpool with others. Whatever way we choose to do it, it all helps the environment. It can be a lot of fun too.
2.Ditch single-use products
We know single-use products have an awful impact on our environment by now, we definitely do. Luckily for us, there is a growing market of reusable alternatives that are both accessible and enjoyable to use.
If you want to help the environment out even a little this year, it would be a great thing to do to consider your relationship with single-use products and see if there are some easy swaps you can make to reusable versions instead.
A small change for you, a big impact on the world.
3. Cut down intake of meat and dairy
Beef production is the leading cause of deforestation in the Amazon. Methane production from livestock has a significant impact on our ozone layer.
The production and consumption of meat and dairy products have a negative impact on our world. We can’t deny that.
No one is saying that you need to go 100% vegan and no one is saying that you need to make big changes overnight. But lessening the quantity of meat and dairy you eat, even a little bit, can have a real positive change on our global environment. Having even one veggie night a week in your home can make a difference.
You never know, you might find new recipes that become your favourites forever too.
It doesn’t have to be boring and it doesn’t have to feel like punishment.
Saving our planet together can be something that brings us a lot of joy, so let’s get to work!
