I believe two things that are important in relation to this blog:
- We should all read more, and
- We should all know more about how to be eco-conscious
As a result of my belief in these two things, I have created this blog with a list of 3 of, what I think, are some of the very best books you can read about the environment and sustainability this year.
As the topic of environmentalism begins to gain traction, there is an increasingly large sea of books out there in this category to be found. This can make it tricky to know where to start if you want to read something new, and something good.
I hope to make that just a little bit easier for you with this list.
Check out it below.
And do let me know what you think of these recommendations in the comment section below!
How Bad Are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything
This book originally made its debut in 2009 and has been since updated to include topics of the time, including Twitter, Bitcoin, and even space tourism. The book was a big hit on its first arrival, and its encore seems to have had the same reception.
Berners-Lee hits the right balance of statistics and prose, giving us an abundance of information and knowledge in one space. He helps us discern what is really worth giving our attention to in terms of change and sustainability, and what is less important than we might have originally thought.
If you are feeling a little confused about how you can help the earth, this book is an amazing and up to date guide for every kind of person. I would definitely put it at the top of my personal list of best environmental books.
A Life on Our Planet: My Witness Statement and a Vision for The Future
Sir David Attenborough is global royalty when it comes to talking about planet earth.
If you are looking for a book packed with sage wisdom and extensive personal experience with these topics, look no further than this addition to Sir David’s repertoire.
This book is an eye-opening reflection on living in a world that is slowly decaying and deteriorating all around us. Attenborough doesn’t shy away from the hard truths of what is happening in the world right now and he tells the story how it really is. But, that being said, it isn’t all doom and gloom, this book always includes the very important aspect of hope and vision for the future.
He admits we have made mistakes, but he tells us how to fix them too.
That is what we need right now.
The Joyful Environmentalist: How to Practise without Preaching
This addition to our list is an addition with lots of character and wit. If you are sick of feeling depressed and hopeless when you read about the state of our planet, this is an antidote of a book.
This book is funny, joyful, and easy to read. It is even designed in short chapters so that busy, overworked adults have the time to squeeze the information into their lives.
While funny and joyful, the book is also filled to the brim with insightful knowledge and practical experience. Losada helps us look at the issues facing our world and what we can do about them with a mindset of positive, actionable change. She shows us how to be part of the solution in a genuinely efficient way.
And doesn’t that seem like the only way we are going to be able to make any difference to our world?
It does to me.
