If you are someone who loves your comedy with a bit of a deeper meaning to it, we have some recommendations for you for your next binge-watch.
These are our favourite two comedy shows right now that have something more poignant to say than just jokes. And isn’t that the best kind of comedy? The kind that makes you think, gives you an emotional reaction and makes you laugh.
First up, we have:
Good Girls
Good Girls is now on its fourth season on Netflix and it’s easy to see why audiences keep wanting more of this dark comedy show.
It tells the story of three mothers who somehow find themselves drowning in a new life of crime.
Never unbelievable and always relatable, this show does an excellent job of showing real and authentic characters who act as people would in real life. They are all lovable rouges and every reason they have for beginning a new life as a member of organised crime makes sense… somehow.
The show is funny and shocking all at the same time. Every season comes as a surprise and the originality in plot and design never seems to run out.
If you want something really meaty to watch that will keep you on the end of your seat for weeks to come, this show is for you.
It deals with some really big themes and it overall tells the story of what it is like to be human in the modern age of debt, responsibilities and corruption.
With four seasons now available to stream you won’t be short of amazing episodes to catch up on either.
Dead to Me
Dead to Me is a powerful female-led ensemble show that tells the story of a widow with some anger management problems. When she meets a wacky new friend at a grief circle, her life changes.
The show will have you laughing out loud all the while exploring the heavy themes of death, love, and friendship. Nearly every episode ends with a twist too, so you will find yourself clicking “next episode” as quick as you can every time.
The show is completely unpredictable and complex in all the right ways.
It tells a myriad of stories all in one place and it does with character, integrity and style.
This is a show that I couldn’t recommend enough. You will fall in love with the characters instantly and stay in love with them even as their fatal flaws are gradually revealed.
The show perfectly captures deep and challenging stories without being overly simplistic or drama-led. Every story is told in a way that is both raw and human. It deals exceptionally well with the themes of redemption and forgiveness.
Dead to Me will have you challenging everything you think about what it means to be a good person, what it means to love, and what it means to grieve.
The cast is exceptional too and every performance will catch you hook, line, and sinker.
Which one will you watch first?
