It is a growing trend across the world to make money online. Whether this is from a side hustle or a full-time freelancing career, there are more and more of us making our money all from the comfort of our own laptops.
This has led many people who are still in office-based, retail, hospitality, and admin jobs to wonder whether they should take the leap to quit their job and start to make money online.
If you are one of those people, this blog is going to talk you through the things you need to think about and consider before you make this decision.
Remember that everything isn’t as easy as an inspirational TikTok video will have you thinking it is.
You need a solid foundation first
Before you quit your job and decide to start making money online, you will need to have a solid financial foundation before you do so. It will take some time before you start making a decent income online and you will need enough money to cover you for a couple of months to allow things to kick off the ground.
If you are too financially stressed when you begin making money online you are more likely to cut corners and produce shoddy work because you are trying to make money as quickly as possible.
The best thing to do is to start building your platform while you are still in your current job and start saving money while you do so.
Then, when it comes time to quit your job and pursue making money online full-time, you will be in a much more secure position to do so.
Do your research
There are a lot of get rich quick schemes out there and it is really easy to be caught out by them. It is also easy to get caught up spending a lot of time on something that isn’t going to be a profitable avenue down the line.
Before you even consider quitting your job to make money online, make sure you do ample research into the field you want to go into. Watch YouTube videos, read blogs, consult LinkedIn. Make sure that you know what you are getting into before you start and you will be able to set yourself up for success much easier.
Think long-term not short-term
Again, there will be a lot of people out there that seem to promise the world when it comes to making money online and doing so really quickly.
You also might be tempted when you start out, especially as a freelancer, to take projects that aren’t great or don’t pay well just to get started and get money quickly.
But, it is a much better idea to think about the long-term and to use the solid financial foundation we’ve talked about earlier to allow yourself the freedom of picking only good projects that will stand the test of time.
Don’t get involved with dodgy clients just because you need money quickly.
Yes, you will need to charge less when you start and then build up a portfolio, and it will all take time. But allow yourself to take the time and do things right.
It isn’t an easy leap but it is very possible to make a decent income from working online and making money online.
Just take the necessary precautions before you jump and everything should work out ok.
Best of luck!
