If you love comedy shows as much as I do, it’s possible that you feel you’ve watched all of the good ones out there already.
All the big names, all the blockbusters.
But luckily for you, and me, there are a lot of great and funny but dangerously underrated comedy shows out there for you to get your hands on.
Want to hear about them?
Ok, you’ve convinced me. Here’s my top 3 to check out.
One Day at a Time
One Day at a Time is a Netflix original show that was very unfortunately cancelled in Spring of 2020.
It is a family sitcom based around a single-mother Latino American family living in the States. The cast of the show is eclectic and exciting, even featuring legendary actress Rita Moreno.
The show is an authentic and genuine family sitcom that explores topical and modern themes with dignity and wit. The show grapples with everything from single parenthood to queerness to life after military service.
It is a very heartwarming comedy that will provide some light relief after a hard week. However, it could also bring some tears from its touching and sentimental nature.
I never hear enough about this sitcom and I’d really recommend you check it out.
Peep Show
Peep Show is a British sitcom starring Robert Webb and David Mitchell. It ran from 2003 until 2015 and until 2010 was the longest-running comedy series.
And for good reason.
Peep Show is hilarious.
It has British satire down to a tee and there are lines of dialogue in the show you will never forget once you have heard them. The show is clever, witty and sharp and you will instantly fall in love with the main characters, despite all their quirks and oddities.
There are so many seasons to catch up on if you have never seen it before and so if you are looking for a new show to watch regularly, I would highly recommend this one.
Fun fact, it also features Olivia Coleman before she hit Hollywood fame.
Kim’s Convenience
Kim’s Convenience is another family sitcom series, this time filmed in Canada and featuring a first and second-generation Korean family who own and run a convenience store in Toronto. Interestingly, the show is based on a play with the same name and two of the original actors are also in the show.
The show began in 2017 and finished in April of 2021, with a spin-off on the horizon.
It is a light-heartened and soft comedy series with relatable humour. It explores family dynamics and cultural differences exceptionally well, and it is a programme I always find both relaxing and uplifting to watch.
If you are looking for something that is nowhere near as popular as it should be, something with a lot of heart, and something that will definitely have you smiling, I would urge you to give this one a go.
It is a show that has something for every member of the family too and so if you need something to watch as a group, this could be a family hit.
