If you love travelling and you love writing, you might have dreams of being a travel blogger.
And rightfully so!
There is a lot of value to be had in running a travel blog, both personally and financially. If your blog takes off, it can help you fund even more of the travelling that you love so much, and it can help you live a life with a much healthier work-life balance that you might already have.
Sound good to you? I would say it does.
Let’s look at some practical and accessible tips on how you might begin your journey as a travel blogger this year.
Find your travel blogger niche
There are roughly 70 million posts each month on WordPress alone and many of these are travel blogs. This fact isn’t here to put you off writing a travel blog, not at all, it simply means that to be successful in this arena you will need to find your specific niche.
A niche is a small corner of that market that interests a subsection of people particularly. So in terms of travel blogging, this could be something like environmentally-friendly travel tips, advice for LGBTQ+ travellers, travelling with children, and so on. Having a travel blog that is too vague won’t help you build the all-important traffic that you need, but having a profitable niche will.
So first things first in your new life as a travel blogger: find out what you really like, and stick to that.
Post on a consistent schedule
When it comes to developing a successful blog that you can grow and monetize, you can’t post sporadically or irregularly. You will need to come up with a regular schedule for your posting with blogs appearing at least 2-3 times per week, at least.
You need to establish your blog as a brand that has a solid place on the Internet’s global stage, and posting regularly is the only way to do that.
So get writing! Write as much as you can and have a backlog of blogs you can post even when you are busy, that way you are maximising your time and having the healthier work-life balance that you want.
Use multiple platforms to get your name out there
If you want people to notice your blog and read it, they will need to see it in places they regularly visit online. To be a travel blogger that people know and enjoy listening to, people need to know who you are.
Social media will be your best friend in this process and so will guest spots on other people’s blogs.
Get your name out there as much as you physically can and you will see your levels of organic traffic begin to rise steadily. And that’s all we are after in blogging at the end of the day. Good, solid, organic traffic.
So the only thing left to do is go out there and get building, my brand new travel blogger friend!
