Something that can make us a lot happier and a lot more relaxed in our homes is having an element of the outdoors, indoors.
In our current times, we very often spend most of our time indoors, especially in the Wintertime. Some of us live in areas that are filled with concrete and bricks, and devoid of natural beauty. This can all have more of an impact on us and our mental health than we might imagine.
To combat any adverse effects on these conditions, we can do a couple of things that will help us merge the outdoors and indoors together. We can do things to make our homes feel more natural and earthly.
Want to know what they are?
I will tell you.
Let the light in
One of the very best things we can do to make our homes more natural and in line with nature is to let as much natural light as possible flow into our homes. We all spend a lot of time these days looking at screens and sitting in rooms with artificial lighting, this isn’t always great for us and it certainly doesn’t feel like being outside.
If you try and let as much natural light as possible enter your home, you can do a lot to brighten the place up, both in light and in vibes.
You will notice a big impact on your mood over time as you do this too, which is always an added bonus.
Keep your air fresh and clean
Opening windows, having houseplants, and using air purifiers are all great ways to make your home seem more natural and connected to the outdoors.
Being inside a lot can get stuffy and overwhelming. We can start to feel that the air around us is stale, and this can very often be the case.
If you want to feel like you are outside benefiting from nature and all that comes with it, one of the easiest ways you can do that inside is to get your air as fresh and clean as possible. It might sound a bit silly but you will notice a shift as soon as you do it, I promise.
Use an earthy colour palette
Another thing you can do to connect the inside of your home to the outdoors is to use an earthy colour palette throughout your home. Using blues, greens, browns, and oranges throughout your decor and furnishings will easily your help feel more natural and earthy.
It helps us stay away from anything that feels too synthetic or artificial, and it helps us stay connected with the views and colours of the outside world.
It doesn’t have to be 100% consistent either, of course, you can play around with your pre-existing favourite colours and incorporate them into the natural palette. Even adding small hints of these earthy colours will help your mind make that indoor-outdoor connection that is so important for our minds and bodies.
We were designed to be outside so when we can’t be, we need to give ourselves a little helping hand to keep that connection strong.
